Q on the D

Image
Yesterday was the annual Quick on the Draw competition at Adventure Rock, our climbing gym.  Each year, Craig, the gym manager, chooses a theme for the competition, and this year everyone got his or her robot on; it was the year of Quick on the Drobot. I've only climbed in the comp once, and it was a totally nerve-wracking experience for me, so I prefer to volunteer my time and spend the day hanging out with our friends.  In the morning, I met Craig and his wife Sarah and the three of us headed to Pewaukee together.  Once there (and armed with a cup of chai), I helped with sign-in and registration.  When the competition began, I helped judge routes, tally scores and organized score cards and info.  The calculation and computer team were quite efficient -  that's what happen when you put ladies on the job; we get things done! In the evening, after both sessions of climbing competitions, there is a finals competition.  The past few years I've he...

I Swear I Am Still Alive...

I realize it has been a while since I posted, but it sure isn't the result of a lack of things to chat about. It has much more to do with the serious lack of time I have - and here I thought I would be rolling in free time after grad school. Anyhow, it is exam week for my kiddos, which means I have been spending my time writing reviews, creating review tools, writing exams and grading. You are envious of all my fun, ha?! I've given three exams so far and will wrap up exams tomorrow. Most everything is graded, so I am hopeful my entire weekend won't be consumed with essays and exams. Besides, the annual Q on the D competition at our climbing gym is this weekend, and I am a volunteer, so I have to set aside some time to hang with my gym peeps. Then I have to prepare for a new group of student. Of my four classes, two are only a semester long, so I will be parting ways with 55 students and gaining 66 (for now...there is always the potential that more kids will be added). I...

The Simple Things

Image
This past weekend was proof that it truly is the simple things in life that mean the most.  Though nothing extravagant happened, it was the perfect few days and I cannot wait for next weekend, which I hope will bring more of the same. Friday, my friend Amanda and I drove to work together and then stopped at Target on the way home.  I'm always up for a good trip to Target, so that was lots of fun.  We got to chat and I took care of some shopping.  Later that evening,  I joined Amanda and Justin for dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant, El Beso.  Dinner and the conversation was great, and the margs were fantastic. Saturday was a very casual day.  Brian and I took a trip to the gym and then came home to get ready for the rest of our day, which would include a dinner date with Mom Sue, Papa Bill and Sister Becky and a trip to Greendale High School to see the Greendale Community Theatre's production of Avenue Q.  We went to Barb...

Holiday Season

Image
This time of year is always busy and lots of fun.  Christmas was great and so was the ringing in of 2012.  Let me recap the past few weeks/major events: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day This year we hosted Christmas Eve at our house.  Brian's mom's side of the family joined us, so we had about 15 adults in the house.  Despite my incessant need to be clean and ultra-organized, I love having a full house.  I absolutely enjoy all the conversation and warmth that comes with time with family.  Brian and I also tried our hand at holiday cooking - we officially cooked our first ham.  Everyone seemed to have a good time and enjoyed our culinary endeavor, so I would consider our first go at ham a success.  Moe family photo Christmas morning Brian and I opened gifts and got ready for the day.  Then we went to my parents' house for brunch and more gift opening.  I was super excited to see my dad open his iPad.  After brunch and some t...
