B1G Things


 I intended to call this post B1G Fun, but then….well, you’ll see. 


The past week was an adventurous one:


  • We sold my Highlander one night.
    • Downside: I left work immediately to make it to our appointment at carmax, was told I wouldn’t be needed for signatures, left to get the babies and feed them dinner, got called back about 10 minutes later. Maybe worth the back-and-forth for the purchase price?! 
  • We picked up my brand-spankin’ new (only 6 miles on the odometer), limited edition package, adventure/mom van the next evening. 
    • Downside: I only drove it twice — more to come on that. 


  • We participated in Trunk or Treat (yay, non-service day!!) at H’s school Friday morning. I got to pick H up from school, and we had lunch and a little Mama-H afternoon.
    • Downside: JK4 kiddos are germy, and H definitely picked up a bug. Just before bed, she coughed a few times and then looked to us and asked, “Why did I spit up?” I’ll spare you the details, but there was much laundry to be done. We made plans to cancel our plans for the next day, but H recovered and sent us on our way. We needed naps! It was 8am.

  • We headed to Madison for the Homecoming game and an evening away.
    • Downside: There is NO downside. It’s Madison. It’s home. The Badgers won. We went on a dinner date. We people watched (hello, Halloween in MadTown). We went for a run. We had adult conversation.

But there is that one pesky downside to get back to, the one that turned B1G Fun into B1G Adulting. That’s the one where I was rear-ended in our brand new van.  

And got whiplash and a concussion. And don’t get to drive my van. And need to sleep but can’t because accidents are scary, and they stay with you even when you’re reminded - and know - you’re lucky you weren’t injured. And you feel so grateful your babies weren’t with you, but you also hurt and can’t be fully present with your babies. And you have a million things to sort out like rental cars, rides, new car seats, invoices, doctor visits, claims….ahhh! I really hope I get to enjoy that new van smell soon! 


The opposite of that saying, “It looks worse than it is.” 
It is much worse than it looks 😢


So, like I said, life is full of B1G things.

Just a Little Evening Adventure

Sometimes you have those days that turn out to be so very different than you expected them to be.  Wednesday was one of those days.  We welcomed houseguest Tuesday evening, and I thought I might do a bit of climbing with them in the morning, but then I expected to return to my typical routine - take a hike/go for a run, do some work and head to the gym for some evening climbing with Brian.  Instead, we decided to solo the Second Flatiron, a six-hundred or so foot climb up one of Boulder's most notable landmarks.     To the best of my recollection, I have not soloed anything before (read: climb without a rope or protection/gear).  The only part that unnerved me, however, was the 'jump.'  This was a point where, along the climb, you are required to leap across a divide in the rocks. Stylin' in My New Ride!

Last Friday was an exciting day for me.  Though the new school year was rapidly approaching and my nerves were out of control in anticipation of starting a new school year in a new school with a relatively unfamiliar staff, I happily headed to the car dealership to pick up my new ride, a beautiful white Ford Fusion with all sorts of bells and whistles!   We haven't had a new car in the Runnells family in a few years...and that car quickly became Brian's.  This car, however, is all mine and I LOVE IT!!  A big THANK YOU goes out to my hubbers, who dealt with all the less-than-enjoyable stuff that went along with getting this car  (suffice it to say, our initial car salesman was less than professional and almost drove us to another  dealership).  I think about it each time I get into the car. Helping Chelsea and Kyle

Brace yourselves... this is a long one...and I'm asking for your help. As some of you may know, someone very close to me, Chelsea Bullis, experienced a life-changing event on Sunday, June 10, 2012.  She and her boyfriend, Kyle, were in a terrible motorcycle accident that left them both seriously injured.   Chelsea and her family have always been a part of my life. Chelsea's Aunt Anita was my first babysitter, and eventually her grandma, Maureen, and  her mom, Lynn,  took turns taking care of my brother and me.  Chelsea's Aunt Lainey is my mom's very best friend.  Chelsea, her brother Chad, her cousins Sam and Rachael and I all grew up together.  We took summer trips together, and when I was old enough, I began taking care of Chelsea, her brother and her cousins.  Chelsea and her family were so close to me that we began referring to each other as cousins...and 20+ years later, it is still how we refer to one another.   So ...
