Withers Wedding

After a late Friday night, we had an early Saturday morning.  We needed to be up and ready to leave the house by 7am in order to meet our friends Mike and Lisa and make the five hour drive to Rochester, MN.  I must say that I'm doing pretty well with these early Saturday mornings...though I wouldn't mind not setting an alarm six days a week.

Thankfully, the drive was shorter than anticipated, so we had time to hang out in Rochester before the Withers wedding.  Mike, Lisa, Brian and I stopped at Target for party supplies and found a really nice restaurant for lunch.  McGoonies  Taxi Co. is a restaurant/comedy club that once was an old savings and loan.  There are old pictures and memorabilia all over the restaurant, and the menus look like newspapers (and are even stored in an old paper stand).  Stopping there was a really great choice.

After enjoying a tasty lunch, we headed back to our hotel for a quick nap and a bit of football viewing.  Too bad my beloved Badgers blew it.  I guess they need me in the crowd, ha?!

Later, we met up with Bobby and Leah, who were in from Fresno, CA, and our friend Rob.  Together, our group of long-time friends walked across the street to see our fellow Badger alumnus, Mike Withers, get married.  Some of the friendships in the group date back to elementary school; others are college friendships.  All are very special, and the thought of our missing friend, Will, was on everyone's mind.  Mike and Will had been very close, and it was sad to be celebrating without him.  But, we knew that Will loved a good party, and we all intended to make Mike's wedding a night to remember.

Mike and Sarah's ceremony was wonderful.  It was short and intimate, and full of their personalities.  Dinner was delicious and the dancing that followed during the reception will long be remembered.  I should also mention that the groomsman's speech featured an "Icing" of the bride and groom.

I think we all limped back to the hotel that night.  We danced until we couldn't stand, and we sang until we no longer had voices.  Even my husband was a dancing machine, though he wouldn't do the "Dirty Dancing" lift with me when "I've Had the Time of My Life" played.  I'll forgive him for that one if he forgives me for insisting that he dance to every country song.

As we get older, it's harder and harder to find the time that we once had to spend together.  Some of us were used to seeing each other every day in college, and opportunities like the one we to spend so much time together had this weekend are priceless.

Rob and Brian - white guys can dance?!

Sadly, I do not have pictures of the newly married couple.  They both looked great, and I know they had a wonderful time celebrating.  They just couldn't be tracked down together when I had a camera in hand.
