Chamonix

We’ve spent time in a number of amazing places, and since we know we have plenty more to get to, we assumed we’d always pick new destinations when it came time to travel. But our 2016 trip to Chamonix was so wonderful, we couldn’t resist the chance to share one of our favorite places with our tiny human. Also, French pastries...

Our seven full days in the French Alps were spectacular. We ate our fill of baguettes, pain au chocolat, brioche Suisse, and gelato and enjoyed the leisurely pace of day-to-day life. We had no real agenda other than enjoy the sunshine and all the sights!! 

We were in town at the same time the Coupe du Monde Escalade was taking place, so we passed some of our time at the venue watching climbers and waving at all the people and all the paragliders flying overhead. We also worked on our best “Alleze le Bleu” and celebrated France’s World Cup victory with the locals.  We also found time to run and hike (it’s a lot like work carrying a tiny human and all her supplies), and we made a trip -including a train ride to 10,000 ft. - to see the Matterhorn. 

In short, we had the very best time as a little family. Talk of a third trip to Chamonix is under way (maybe we can catch Le Tour again). In fact, I think Chamonix may just become our summer home if we can master a little bit of French.

On Saturday, May 6, I returned to half marathon racing. It had been quite a hiatus, and my previous half marathon, was completed with a blown out IT band, so I did have to balance high hopes and realistic expectations. Stylin' in My New Ride!

Last Friday was an exciting day for me.  Though the new school year was rapidly approaching and my nerves were out of control in anticipation of starting a new school year in a new school with a relatively unfamiliar staff, I happily headed to the car dealership to pick up my new ride, a beautiful white Ford Fusion with all sorts of bells and whistles!   We haven't had a new car in the Runnells family in a few years...and that car quickly became Brian's.  This car, however, is all mine and I LOVE IT!!  A big THANK YOU goes out to my hubbers, who dealt with all the less-than-enjoyable stuff that went along with getting this car  (suffice it to say, our initial car salesman was less than professional and almost drove us to another  dealership).  I think about it each time I get into the car. My Dad, OUR Hero

This past weekend, we celebrated my dad’s 30 years of service to and retirement from the Mukwonago Fire Department. As both a volunteer fire fighter and EMT, he has spent several decades in service of others. During what surely was one of their most trying times, it was my dad who was with people he’d never met and likely wouldn’t see again. To do that on top investing in full-time work, his family, and his other interests is simply remarkable. And that’s my dad: a driven, generous, passionate man. The Mukwonago Fire Department was a part of my youth. The men and women he served with became my dad’s second family, and thus they were there for many of my milestones. My weekends were were filled with various events hosted by MFD, including community events and that one family picnics that ended with Dad getting stitches.
