Runnells Christmas

This past weekend was the annual Runnells Christmas gathering at Grandpa's. Per usual, it was a fantastic time with a family I am beyond blessed to have married into. The group was extra large this year with great aunts and uncles, second cousins, and new arrivals -- namely our little lady. 

We ate well - ham and turkey, jell-o, cookies and custard (a special shout out to the makers of the cheese potatoes sans onions!!). And we laughed a lot.  If the white elephant gift exchange items weren't chuckle-inducing enough (someone is now the proud owner of a turkey statue), the youngest members of the crew did their part when we attempted (and mostly successfully executed) a picture with Grandpa and five of his six great-grandchildren.  Oh, the faces little people make when they're not on board with the grown-ups' plans -- or are placed in a nativity scene!

The holidays are a magical and heart-warming time, no doubt.  Having such wonderfully loving and entertaining people to share in the joy of the season makes it all the better.  With one celebration in the books, it's onto some ski season fun in Colorado and even more Christmas cheer.  I have a lot to celebrate this year!

On Saturday, May 6, I returned to half marathon racing. It had been quite a hiatus, and my previous half marathon, was completed with a blown out IT band, so I did have to balance high hopes and realistic expectations. Stylin' in My New Ride!

Last Friday was an exciting day for me.  Though the new school year was rapidly approaching and my nerves were out of control in anticipation of starting a new school year in a new school with a relatively unfamiliar staff, I happily headed to the car dealership to pick up my new ride, a beautiful white Ford Fusion with all sorts of bells and whistles!   We haven't had a new car in the Runnells family in a few years...and that car quickly became Brian's.  This car, however, is all mine and I LOVE IT!!  A big THANK YOU goes out to my hubbers, who dealt with all the less-than-enjoyable stuff that went along with getting this car  (suffice it to say, our initial car salesman was less than professional and almost drove us to another  dealership).  I think about it each time I get into the car. My Dad, OUR Hero

This past weekend, we celebrated my dad’s 30 years of service to and retirement from the Mukwonago Fire Department. As both a volunteer fire fighter and EMT, he has spent several decades in service of others. During what surely was one of their most trying times, it was my dad who was with people he’d never met and likely wouldn’t see again. To do that on top investing in full-time work, his family, and his other interests is simply remarkable. And that’s my dad: a driven, generous, passionate man. The Mukwonago Fire Department was a part of my youth. The men and women he served with became my dad’s second family, and thus they were there for many of my milestones. My weekends were were filled with various events hosted by MFD, including community events and that one family picnics that ended with Dad getting stitches.
